ISFD Instructors

ISFD instructors have over 10 years of successful experience in grant writing and fundraising development. ISFD instructors are passionate about the work they do and become eagerly invested in their client’s projects. They have a proven track record of being able to successfully train organizations how to be on the front line of securing funds for their programs. All instructors have an extensive level of program development expertise and are accomplished fundraisers and event planners. This diverse level of experience contributes to making ISFD instructors the top leaders in the industry.

Mr. John O’Malley

John O’Malley is principal and founder of O’Malley International Associates, which is based in Pasadena, California. Since 1993, John has been instrumental in the execution and management of his agency’s media and image solutions for businesses, universities, trade associations, governments, private and public institutions, nonprofit groups, and individuals. These solutions involve quality communication strategies and client-focused services in marketing/public relations, creative content/design (print, Web, broadcast), and development/fund raising

John has served as an instructor and program planning and training development adviser at the Los Angeles Unified School District, where he spearheaded the district’s efforts to provide workforce training/education programs to high-profile organizations, such as General Motors, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Walt Disney. In addition, he performed proposal planning and grantwriting tasks in support of education and training programs for the district’s adult education division. He has also worked on behalf of charitable giving programs operated by American Express, Citigroup, Avery Dennison and other companies.

John holds a Masters of Science degree from Mount St. Mary’s College, Los Angeles, California and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is also active in civic and charitable organizations, most notably through his membership on the boards of directors of the International Institute of Los Angeles, Los Angeles City College Foundation and the Theater of Hope. He is currently president of the Marquette University Alumni Club of Southern California.

Mr. Alan Paul

Alan Paul has more than 25 years experience in strategic planning, fundraising and organizational development. He is currently Director of Strategic Initiatives for UC Riverside's College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences; before that, he was Deputy Director for Special Projects in UCLA's Brain Research Institute and Program Director in the UCLA Anderson School of Management's Office of Executive Education Programs.

Alan's firm, Giant Angstrom Partners, serves government, universities and non-profit organizations. He has consulted for school districts, health care organizations, law enforcement agencies and faith-based organizations. His past projects include program design and evaluation, proposal development and writing, business planning, board retreats, policy analysis, economic development planning and executive education. Alan was born in NYC, grew up in rural Arizona, attended the University of Wisconsin and now resides in Los Angeles. Trained as a geographer and economist, his emphasis on applying theory to real problems puts his work squarely in the field of community development.

Mr. Edward Wollmann

Edward Wollmann is Director of Program Research & Development at the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living, a disability rights and education organization serving Washtenaw, Monroe and Livingston counties. Edward has been developing grant proposals for non-profit organizations for over 10 years and has been awarded over $9 million in grant funding.

Edward has experience with proposal research and development with federal grant proposals, such as the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grants, the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Community Services Block Grant and the Social Services Block Grant procedures; the Department of Agriculture Rural Business Enterprise Grants, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Small Business Development Center grants, the U.S. Dept. of Education Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services grants, the Corporation for National and Community Services (CNCS) AmeriCorps*VISTA program, and the U.S. Dept. of Labor Workforce Investment Act (WIA) grant process.

Edward has program development experience in asset-based community development; coalition and partnership building; community organizing; community-based housing; community based participatory research; community-based transportation; disability rights and education; grants research and development; grants management & administration; Individual Development Accounts (IDA); micro-enterprise development; micro-lending program management; program development & evaluation; social enterprise development; special events fundraising; strategic planning; supportive housing; vocational rehabilitation; volunteer development; workforce development; workshop facilitation, and youth mentoring.
